Overview
Pressure / Vacuum Conservation Vents are employed where it is necessary or desirable to reduce evaporation of tank contents to atmosphere. These vents are generally designated as the conservation type. They are typically mounted to a flange or pipe that connects to the vapor space (space within the tank that is above the liquid surface) of a storage tank. The pressure in this vapor space increases or decreases as liquid is pumped into or out of the tank, respectively. Atmospheric temperature changes cause an expansion or contraction of the vapors in this space, again resulting in pressure increases or decreases. These vents are factory set to your specifications so that the pallet assemblies in the housings open when specific pressure and vacuum levels are sensed. The set points for these vents are achieved either by weight loading or spring loading of the pallet assemblies, depending on the setting required. The tank’s vapor space pressure/vacuum works in opposition to the force (weight or spring) applied to the pallet assemblies. Once the excess pressure or vacuum condition has been relieved, the pallet assemblies reseal automatically. The tank’s vapor space is always maintained within the safe range of its pressure and vacuum operating design limits.
Pressure / Vacuum Conservation Vents w/ Flame Arrester
Protectoseal Series No. 830, Pressure / Vacuum Conservation Vent with Flame Arrester, is designed to prevent costly evaporation losses, tank rupture due to over-pressure, and collapse due to vacuum. The flame arrester protects tank against fire and explosion caused by exterior sources of ignition. Pallets in the vent housing minimize air and vapor loss as the tank “breathes”. They open and close just enough to maintain safe working pressures and avoid damage to the tank. The flame arrester is mounted externally and is only exposed to vapors when venting.

End-of-Line Pressure / Vacuum Conservation Vents
The Protectoseal Series No. 8540H, End-of-Line Pressure / Vacuum Conservation Vent, is intended for use where both pressure and vacuum relief are required. The pallets in the vent housing allow intake of air and escape of vapors as the tank normally breathes in and out. Pallets open and close to permit only that intake or outlet relief necessary to remain within permissible working pressures and avoid damage to the tank. Reduces cost evaporation losses.

Improved Performance, Aluminum, End-of-Line Pressure / Vacuum Vent
The Series 8540G Improved Performance, Aluminum, End-of-Line Pressure / Vacuum Breather Vent provides quicker pressure pallet lift, and improved flow performance at low overpressures just above the relief set point. This provides the benefit of higher flows at lower overpressures which can be beneficial in storage tank vapor control schemes requiring tight operating bands with the tank’s emergency relief vents, tank blanketing valves and other associated devices in their vapor control system.

Pipe-Away Pressure / Vacuum Conservation Vents
Protectoseal Series No. 18540, Pipe-Away Pressure / Vacuum Conservation Vent, is designed to provide pressure and vacuum relief in applications that require hazardous vapors to be piped away, rather than released into the atmosphere. The pallets in the vent housing allow intake of air and escape of vapors as the tank normally breathes in and out. Pallets open and close to permit only that intake or outlet relief necessary to remain within permissible working pressures and avoid tank damage. Relieving vapors may be piped away through a flanged connection one size larger than inlet providing greater flow capabilities.

In-Line Pressure / Vacuum Conservation Vents
The design of the Protectoseal In-Line Pressure / Vacuum Conservation Vent, Series No. 8740, makes these vents particularly suited for mounting inside tank house installations. Outlet pipes can direct vapors to some appropriate area for discharge. Locating the vent inside the building facilitates maintenance and eliminates hazardous roof top inspections. Pallets in the vent housing allow intake of air and escape of vapors as the tank normally breathes in and out. Pallets open and close to permit only that intake or outlet relief necessary to remain within permissible working pressures and avoid tank damage.

Pipe-Away Pressure Conservation Vents
Protectoseal Series No. 17800, Pipe-Away Pressure Conservation Vent, is intended for use where pressure relief is required and the relieving vapors must be piped away and not emitted into the atmosphere. May also be used for vacuum relief. A pallet in the vent housing opens and closes permitting relief necessary to avoid tank damage. A flanged side connection is provided for easy pipe-away of vapors eliminating the emission of vapors to the atmosphere.

End-of-Line Vacuum Vents
Protectoseal Series No. 6240 Vacuum Relief Vents are intended for use where only vacuum relief is required. A pallet in the vent housing retards air intake as the tank normally breathes in due to atmospheric temperature changes or emptying of the tank. The pallet opens and closes to permit only that intake relief necessary to avoid tank damage under normal operating conditions. Series No. 16240 offers a side mounted connection.

Side Mounted Vacuum Vent
Protectoseal Series No. 16240 Vacuum Relief Vents are intended for use where only vacuum relief is required. They are designed to be side mounted to the tank structure or piping. A pallet in the vent housing retards air intake as the tank normally breathes in due to atmospheric temperature changes or emptying of the tank. The pallet opens and closes to permit only that intake relief necessary to avoid tank damage under normal operating conditions. Series No. 6240 is offered for end-of-line applications.

Weatherhood Free Vent
The Protectoseal Series 5200G Free Vent provides open access to the tank’s vapor space and provides pressure and vacuum venting. Flange connection mounts to tank’s roof nozzle. Opening is protected by removable weatherhood. Protective mesh screen is also provided to minimize the possibility of debris entering the tank opening while allowing access to the tank’s interior through roof nozzle for inspection, measurement, etc. For larger sizes or for raised face flanges refer to Series 5200D, or contact factory for details.
